At Swannanoa, we strive to find the best staff possible to take care of your camper. We understand the amount of trust you are putting in us to keep your child safe.

On top of hiring the best, we spend 1 week training them in behavior& conflict management, bully prevention, child development, leading activites, time management, etc. All staff members are required to be cerfified in 1st Aid & CPR also.

Our training is an intense training that leaves the staff feeling confident in their role as a mentor and provider for their campers.

Why should someone chose to work for us? We only hire the best staff here at Swannanoa...those who strive to go above and beyond to create the magic of camp for every child. We, as administrators, also strive to make your summer here at Swannanoa one that you will remember for years to come. In addition to an exceptional staff training and support throughout the weeks, we offer optional weekend outings that will give you a taste of Western North Carolina and offer lots of opportunities to bond with your fellow staff members.

We offer 3 types of contracts depending on the duration of employment you are looking for.

1) 5 week commitment: A majority of our positions

2) 8 week commitment: A handful of leadership positions

3) 11 week commitment: Day camp counselor positions for local staff .

After you fill out this application, you will be considered for an interview. If accepted for an interview and offered a position with the Center, you will be required to fill out additional NCSU paperwork and pass a Back Ground Check to secure employment.

Center Director = Maggie Hedge-Post

 

Maggie (aka Buster) grew up in Tennessee and has over 15 years experience in the camping industry. She is moving here with her husband Mike and their dog Mattie from Colorado. This will be her 3rd summer here and excited to see Swannanoa grow. Maggie and Mike are expecting their first child in early March so there will be a new little one added to the family!

Program Director = Amanda Thomas

 

Amanda (aka Blue) is from Michigan. She has spent several years tutoring,mentoring and coaching youth in Detroit and Colorado. This is her second summer with us and is excited to bring about new programming ideas. She coachs varisty Tennis at the local High School and is the contact for our GO! (Get Outside) Environmental Ed program for school groups.

 

  Mary Ann

Day Camp Coordinator/Operations Specialist= Kimberly Simmers

 

Kimmmie (aka Mary Ann) is returning to us from the University of Georgia. She was a cabin counselor for us last year and is pursuing a career with children. She is currently studying abroad in New Zealand but will be back for an internship here starting in April. She is looking forward to trying her hand at administration and learning the "ropes" of camp.
